Job Description:

The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas at Austin seeks a dynamic, experienced, and professionally accomplished voice & text teacher and coach to take a major role in the arc of training in its newly devised pre-professional undergraduate Actor Training Program. The candidate will have a particular expertise in Latino and/or Hemispheric literature and performance traditions. Additionally, the successful applicant will have distinguished and ongoing professional credits in the field; a Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre; demonstrable experience as an instructor at the University level, as well as experience as an actor and voice & text coach in professional settings; research/creative work in Latino or Hemispheric Theatre or Performance; sensitivity to the ongoing balance of theory and practice in an academic environment. Significant leadership and administrative skills as well as a commitment to the collaborative mission and pedagogic reach of the department are a plus.

This is a full-time, tenured/tenure-track appointment, with full benefits and competitive salary. This position requires relocation to Austin, TX, however ongoing professional work on a national level is encouraged and expected.

The teaching responsibilities of this position include undergraduate courses in Voice and Movement, Voice, Acting, and topics in Latino or Hemispheric Performance. Course content will include building vocal support, resonance, range, speech, and skills for the effective speaking of both classical and contemporary texts. Additional responsibilities may include mentorship of undergraduate students, particularly those interested in Latino or Hemispheric performance traditions. The position will assist with undergraduate recruitment; have opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with various departmental programs across the university, such as Mexican-American studies. The candidate will also be expected to maintain ongoing professional work on a national level and assist in the promotion and advancement of the Department and its students nationally and internationally.
